Good Mourning – Matthew 5:4
Sermon on the Mount # 3
April 6, 2008
Have you ever wanted to run away from all your troubles? (Psalm 55:6-8; 16, 22)
Blessed are those who mourn; isn’t that a contradiction? (Ecc 7:2)
Who are those who mourn?
Not sorrowing over the setbacks to your kingdom
We begin to see sin from God's perspective.
It is mourning is over sin.
This mourning is a grief over our remaining sins.
Your sin ought to grieve you. (Romans 7:21-25)
We need to learn to hate our remaining sin, not excuse it.
A good mourning is grieving over remaining sin.
This mourning is a grief over remaining sin in others.
In our brothers and sisters (Ezek 9:4; Jer 9:1)
In our society
This mourning is concerning the destruction that sin has caused.
Why did Jesus weep outside of Lazarus's tomb
We weep over the indifference of the world to the gospel.
Why did Jesus weep outside of Jerusalem?
What does Paul mean in Romans 9:1-5?
What is the comfort that is promised?
Comfort for my sin
Comfort in sin’s destruction
