It’s time again for our Faith Presbyterian Church Annual Picnic!  The picnic will be Saturday, September 25th, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Our picnic will be in the same location as last year, Eastwood Park, in North Canton. (Next door to Kermit and Myrna Best’s home.) Flyers, maps and a sign up sheet are on the vestibule table with more information. There are basketball hoops and tennis courts so if you wish to play please bring your own equipment. Also, if you have lawn chairs please bring them. This is always a special time of fellowship and good fun. Let’s make this year’s picnic a huge success. If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask Dave Rastetter or Melinda Althuis.

The electronic organ which had been used in our worship at different times through the years is being offered to any of our members who might be interested in it, or secondarily to others who learn of this, if it is not spoken for by one of our members. It is working, but there would be some work to be done on it to get it into good playing shape. If interested please contact the deacons (Mel Channell is chairman) about arrangements.

Calvin and Geeta Taylor (India): Calvin and Geeta had hoped to leave the US for India by September 8th, but departure will be delayed until their support is fully raised. Also, please pray for men who would be qualified to become ruling elders in the Presbytery in India. There are twelve churches, only two of which have Sessions. And remember in prayer their Indian friend, Dinesh, a believer who has been studying at John Hopkins, and been stricken with an embolism. Praise God for the Taylor’s recent visit to Faith Church.

David and Marcia Jones (Ivory Coast, Africa): David asks for prayer for Ali, a Muslim husband, who is bitter and distraught about his favorite wife and his daughter coming to faith in Jesus Christ. Pray for other Muslims, like him, who refuse to hear the gospel. Praise God for the three young churches in Abidjan, and their pastors. And pray for more leaders who can serve as elders and deacons. David will teach courses this year on Covenant Theology and Muslim Evangelism. Marcia is homeschooling Gareth and Evan. Ian and Bethan return to studies in the U.S.A. It is so hard to be so far apart! Give thanks for this faithful family.

Jack and Sherri Campbell (Spain): The Campbell’s are stateside in South Carolina. Please pray for Sherri and the entire family as Sherri faces some difficult health issues.

Morning Nursery: This is the Sunday for which you have been assigned responsibility for the nursery during morning worship. If you are unable to provide care on your day please find a replacement. September 5: Stacey Woolbert, September 12:    Sandra Taylor September 19: Kristi Kadlecek September 26:   Dawn Duff

Hooray to all the children who came to Vacation Bible School this year! They helped to raise a large sum of money for our missionary. The Kindergarten class brought in $41.41; the Primary Class brought in $143.13 and the Junior Class brought in $102.58. The Primary Class won the race and earned banana splits the last day of VBS for their hard work. In total the children raised $535.01 to send to missions. Praise God for these children who have a heart to spread the gospel!

To update everyone on the walk to raise money for Akron Pregnancy Services back in May of 2004:

The sponsored walkers numbered 300 and represented 78 different churches. Faith Presbyterian Church had two walkers who raised $410. I would like to thank those who sponsored the two walkers and hope to get more walkers for next year. Thank you to all those who walked and those who sponsored the walkers.

Session had approved this policy previously and occasionally this needs to be placed before the congregation again to remind everyone of church policy.

Dear Faith Family Members:

Session is addressing this message to all church members because it is a matter of concern to all members.

It has become evident to the elders, and has been specifically brought to the attention of both elders and deacons by individual church members, that children are increasingly roaming about the church property, inside and outside, unsupervised and in inappropriate ways.

Not only is it inappropriate to have children running wildly about, chasing each other, and screaming in the church building, it is also dangerous to both the children and adults, particularly to elderly adults who may be unsteady on their feet.

Likewise, it is unsafe to have children wandering about in the parking lot, chasing or simply not paying attention. No matter how careful and alert drivers may be, having unsupervised children in the parking lot, in daylight or after dark, is an invitation for an injury or death which none of us wish to see.

Here are a few rules and principles of which we should all be aware, and in which parents should inculcate their children.

(1) No child should be upstairs in the church building except at the express direction of an adult, or under direct adult supervision.

(2) While some youthful exuberance is expected, no child should run, play tag, chase, wrestle, shout, scream, or generally speak above a normal conversational tone of voice in the church building.

(3) No child should be in the kitchen or food preparation areas except at the express direction of an adult.

(4) The kitchen is not to be used as a passageway from one part of the building to another.

(5) In order to be good stewards, and to avoid undue waste of food, parents should accompany their children through the serving lines to assure that the food taken is appropriate, and is not wasted. Children must also be supervised at the dessert table.

(6) Children should be trained to take their used plates and utensils to the appropriate receptacles. Parents are responsible for cleaning up after their children.

(7) Food and drink should not be taken outside of the dining area except at the express direction of an adult or under adult supervision.

(8) In good weather use of the outdoor area is appropriate, but children should be instructed to stay out of the parking lot and driveways except when going to or coming from a vehicle with an adult.

(9) While we recognize the need for occasional exceptions, children should use the restroom before rather than during the worship services.

(10) In worship, children need to be quiet and attentive, and where possible to participate, such as following scripture reading and singing.

While parents are primarily responsible for the discipline and supervision of their children, all of us are responsible to aid and nurture in the rearing of covenant children. Therefore any adult member should feel free to call a halt to inappropriate actions by children of the congregation, and to admonish them as appropriate.

Prayer Chain Requests

August 8:          Win Worcester is resting comfortably and will be having a heart catheterization sometime Monday morning. Please pray that this is not serious and for guidance for the doctors.

August 9:          Win was transported to Akron General last night to have the procedure done there. There was less than 70% blockage and the doctors felt that angioplasty was not needed at this time. Win is resting and will be released sometime tomorrow with some new medications to take. Praise God this was not serious and pray that the new medications will correct the blockage.

August 9:          Ruth Beckley fell last week getting off the curb at her apartment. She did not go to the doctor, but is a bit sore and it is taking some time for her to get well. Please pray for strength and continued healing.

August 12:        Jim and Dina Bruder would like prayer for their daughter-in-law, Beverly, a navy doctor detailed to Marine support at a hospital in western Iraq for seven months. She left from Camp Pendleton this morning. Please also pray for their son Mark, and two grandsons, Andrew (15) and Matthew (12), near San Diego while she is away. Also, please remember the Marines with whom Bev will be serving as well as all our men and women of the military.

August 17:        Dawn Duff’s friend, Michelle, had surgery this morning to remove the tumor on her lung. It ended up being more extensive surgery than they had hoped. The doctor had to remove the entire lung and several lymph nodes. Please pray for strength and healing during this difficult time.

August 17:        Faith Blankschaen had her baby at 8:30 a.m. on August 14th. Theoden was born by C-section. He had some kind of internal bleeding and is in the neo-natal unit. Please pray the doctors can determine what is wrong with him.

August 19:        New covenant child Theoden Blankschaen is doing much better. Somehow he picked up an infection and had bleeding in his intestines. The bleeding has stopped and doctors have put him on penicillin for the infection. The baby should be coming home from the hospital in a day or two. Praise God for His mercy!

July 16:             Praise God for many answered prayers! Jane Worcester came home from the hospital yesterday afternoon. The procedure went very well and they did not find any blockages in the arteries of the heart.

July 22:             John Taylor’s niece, Jesi, only 3 weeks old, is in the hospital with meningitis. They are waiting for test results to see what kind of meningitis it is. Please pray for the baby and for the entire family.

July 27:             Allister Stone will be going into surgery this week to remove his gallbladder. He was admitted to the hospital and will have a stone removed from his pancreatic duct today. Once the inflamation goes down they will remove the gall bladder. Please pray for the surgery and for the entire family.

July 29:             Karla Richard’s requests prayer for her mother, Lollie. She is in Akron General Hospital for the second time in less than two years for a bowel obstruction. She has severe abdominal pain and is currently having an upper and lower GI test. There is definitely blockage. Her blood pressure is high and Lollie has a history of heart problems. Please pray that surgery is not necessary, but if it is, pray for guidance for the surgeons and comfort for the family.

July 29:             Dr. Allister Stone had surgery sometime today, presumably to remove his gallbladder. Please pray that he is resting comfortably and no longer in pain.

July 30:             Karla Richard’s mother, Lollie, is having surgery this morning for a blocked bowel. Please pray for guidance for the doctors and for a complete recovery.

August 5:          Win Worcester was having chest pains earlier today that would not go away, so he drove himself to Barberton Hospital to see what was causing the pain. No word yet if he has been admitted. Please pray that this is not serious and that he is no longer in pain.

August 5:          I would like to thank you all for your prayers and concerns regarding my mother, Lollie. Her surgery went well last Friday and yesterday I brought her home from the hospital – two days earlier than the doctor expected. She is recovering very well, just a bit weak, and slow moving
