Reformation for Scotland

1. In early October Elizabeth Bogue will be in the U.S. to visit some of her supporting churches. She will be in Akron the first weekend of October, and session has asked her to give a report on the work in Scotland during the Sunday evening service on October 3. FPC has supported Beth as one of our missionaries for several years now. Beth is officially the Administrative Secretary for the Airdrie Reformed Presbyterian Church of Scotland. But her work touches many areas including publication and distribution of evangelistic, informational, and instructional literature. One quarterly evangelistic newsletter is produced in quantities of 5000 for distribution throughout Airdrie. Beth is involved as well with youth activities, camping, Bible studies and hospitality to many who pass through their area. In addition she is secretary of the Covenanter Theological Institute which trains men for ministry in Scotland and sponsors various educational opportunities. She oversees summer mission teams that come to minister for about 6 weeks as well as assisting in the development of a program for college students who come to Airdrie for a semester to work in the church’s ministry while studying at a local university. Prior to Beth’s presentation at the close of the service, Dr. Bogue will be preaching on some aspects of the Reformation in Scotland in its glory years and the urgent need for another reformation today. Beth is a daughter of our congregation and a graduate of Westminster Academy and Christ College.

5. Missionary Updates

Uganda: (Don and Fran McNeill): Praise God that the pastor – students have finished the first year at Uganda Bible Institute (UBI) and are enthusiastic about studying the Word with their new study tools. Pray for Don as he carries a very heavy teaching load in this new school year. Construction of the second floor of the classroom/library block of UBI was started this summer. Thank God for the progress. Pray for God’s blessing on Fran’s ministry in women’s Bible studies and evangelism. Praise God that the McNeills are healthy in a country with many deadly diseases. Remember Silas (age 17 last month) as he studies and accompanies his homeschool teacher on errands of mercy. The other McNeill children are in the USA (Anna, age 25 and Nathan age 22 are married; and Seth, age 20 is at Belhaven College in MS.)

Florida: (Geoffrey and Nancy Donnan): Give thanks for God’s protection during the recent hurricanes hitting Florida’s east coast. Geoff and Nancy were in St. Louis to move his aging mother and arrange the sale of her home. They raced back to Florida to help prepare the home and headquarters of Reformation Christian Ministries for the storms. Praise God they were not injured by the hurricanes, although they have had much hard labor and disheartening losses of roofing, livestock, old shade trees, and valuable orchards. Uncertain power and heat, and mosquitoes, test their endurance. Son-in-law David, manager of Reformation International Theological Seminary successfully outran a huge falling oak tree – praise God! His wife Kimarie (the Donnan’s daughter) is pregnant with their eighth child. Nancy Donnan’s severe allergies are exacerbated by mold, dust and heat. Yet, they are praising God’s power and trusting in His help and mercy.

Scotland: (Beth Bogue): Praise God for the growth in numbers and in grace of Airdrie Reformed Presbyterian Church and for their able Administrative Secretary – camper – prayer warrior – editor – youth leader – and Covenanter Theological Institute (CTI) secretary – our Beth. Give thanks for the summertime missions teams from the USA and Northern Ireland, and for the newcomers coming from their work. Beth was instrumental in arranging and advising, and joining in, their many activities. Give thanks for four new students for CTI this fall semester. Finally, “God-speed” for Beth as she travels home this month to raise prayer and financial support from churches. Pray for safety and effective preaching of Rev. Andrew Quigley, coming to speak at a conference in Virginia this month.

6. Individuals and families of Faith Church are asked to prayerfully consider “adopting” one of the missionaries our church supports, for special prayer and correspondence. Email access overseas is extremely helpful but not necessary. Then, any news, prayer and praise requests, and pictures from the mission field could be shared with the congregation. One family has already agreed to establish personal contact with the Carr family in South Africa. Will you volunteer? Please let Pat Hill know if you would befriend a particular missionary or if you have any questions.
